Africa
Africa is the world’s second largest and second most populated continent. There are more than 900 million people living there, and it is thought to be the location where people first existed 200,000 years ago. How do we know? The oldest human fossils were found here.
Africa also has the most countries on it - 54 in all. The climate can range from tropical to subarctic at its highest peak. The animal population is as diverse as the climate, and is said to be the largest among wild animals. |
Great Pyramid of Giza
There are amazing pyramids scattered throughout Egypt, but the one known as “The Great Pyramid” can be found in Cairo. It is the largest stone building on earth, and the last surviving wonder of the ancient world. It is made of 2.3 million blocks of granite and limestone, and originally was covered by 21 acres of polished stones. It was thought to be built about 2589 B.C.E., and took about 20 years to finish. Experts believe it would weigh 6.5 million tons. The size and design of this is enough to astound, but add to it the mathematical importance of the plan and its placement in the world at the exact location where the longest meridian and longest parallel meet is mind boggling! |
