Colosseum
The Colosseum is an elliptical amphitheater in the center of Rome, Italy. It was started between 70 and 72 CE and was completed around 80 CE. It is the largest ever built in the Roman empire. Originally, it could seat 50,000 people who would come to watch gladiator contests and other big events, such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, re-enactments of battles, and dramas. It was used for entertainment for nearly 500 years and then became used for workshops, housing, shrines, and more. It is now in a state of ruin due to damage from earthquakes and stone-robbers, but it still is one of Rome’s most popular tourist attractions.
