How to Begin
First, decide what type of game you would like to create? Explore the different options below before making a final decision. Be sure to:
Play • Think • Share • Brainstorm - Start to form your ideas for your very own game!!
- Read the instructions (if there are any).
- Play the game
- Notice how the sprites move. Which do you control and how? Which run independently from the script?
- How are points earned and/or lost?
- How does the game end?
- Click the See Inside button to look at the script.
- Click through the different Sprites to see the program for each.
- Look at Sprite Costumes - How do they enhance the game?
- Click on the background and background "costume" tab to see if the background is programmed to change. Some games have A LOT!

Now you should be ready to begin planning with your partner. Use the guide to help you brainstorm several key elements of your game together:
- What will your game environment (background) be? Will the environment stay the same or change throughout the game?
- What elements of your environment need to be added as separate objects or sprites? Anything that moves or interacts with the player must be separate.
- What will your players or sprites look like? Will they need different poses or costumes?
- What is the goal of the game: reach something, catch something, escape from something, achieve something.....
- How will the game conclude? Will you keep score? Will it be based on a time?
