Antarctica
Antarctica is the 5th largest continent in size but the smallest continent by population numbers. This means the continent is only sparsely populated as on Antarctica there are only research stations for scientists and no permanent settlements. Antarctica is covered almost completely by ice. 90% of the planet's ice is located on this continent, which also makes up 60% - 70% of the world's freshwater supply. It is the coldest, driest, and windiest continent and is considered to have the largest desert in the world as well as one of the most interesting mountain ranges. Read more about Antarctica here. |
Transantarctic Mountains
The Transantarctic Mountains (TAM) are a mountain range in Antarctica which reach across from Cape Adare to Coats Land. They cover the entire length of the continent, dividing it into east and the west. The highest mountains reach 14, 764 feet above sea level and are some of the only places in Antarctica that are not covered in snow and ice.
